It really is all up to you.

There are so many thoughts in my head, maybe yours too, as we turn that "big chapter page" into a new year. I am not as prone to making new year's resolutions, as I am to reflection. Trying to learn from the many times I've skinned my knees, as well as continued emphasis on the aspects in my life that are working, that are healthier, more positive, you know, to live my life on the other side, so I can truly enjoy the journey.

Are you enjoying the journey?

My wife and I went on a hike over the New Year's holiday weekend. It is a trail we do often, it's familiar, yet it's new each time. Except for the crunch of our boots on the snow, the hike was very quiet, we spoke little, we enjoyed the nature around us, the brisk cold air, the white snow glaring even on a gray day. We are fortunate to see the beauty of a waterfall along the way, this time half frozen. Nature never ceases to amaze or inspire me. It felt good to be present, enjoying the journey.

This hike has options, different ways to get various places. Some flat paths, many arduous paths. Forks in the road. It's comfortable to make the same decision each time, but do we miss out on the unknown? It's easy to walk in circles, or to get lost. Plenty of choices on the path.

Our pastor recently began his sermon, "I wonder as I wander out under the skies..."

My wife always says, "If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there...."

Our daughter has a tattoo that reads, "Not all who wander are lost...."

Choosing a path is an age-old dilemma! Wandering along your path is not wrong, wondering amidst your path is not bad, having a planned destination is often encouraged. But I ask you, again, with the path you are on, are you enjoying the journey?

If you are not in a good place in your life, be accountable to yourself. It really is all up to you.

If you are lonely, be brave and join a social club that gets you out of the house. If you are overwhelmed, graciously learn to say no. If you are addicted, raise your hand to truth and utilize resources available to you. If you are unhappy with your job, spruce up your resume and hit send. If your marriage is shaky, invest in each other and seek counseling, there is zero shame in that. Please don't plough through your life aimlessly, you are worth so much more!

Life starts with a twinkle in someone's eye, and ends as a twinkle in the heavenly skies. The circle of life is your path. Make each day count. Go into 2023 with intent to enjoy your journey! I plan to.
